The mala has always been used by Buddhists and Hindus during the recitation of mantras. Similarly to the prayer beads, it does indeed help to focus one’s mind on meditation.
Traditionally, it comes in form of a long necklace constituted of 108 Rudraksha beads which can be alternated with other beads or semi-precious stones. This number carries many significations in the Buddhist tradition.
In its bracelet form, the Wisdom mala is composed of 24 small Rudraksha beads and 23 gemstone amethyst beads. Grown in India, Rudraksha beads are actually the seeds from the Elaeocarpus angustifolius tree. They are considered sacred in many Asian cultures, and known to bring inner peace, clarity of mind and a path to life. The smaller the Rudraksha beads, the more sacred they are, as they are considered rarer and carrying greater energy.
The Amethyst stone, given its purple colour, has great significance in the practice of yoga. A symbol of spirituality, it is also a calming colour that helps the mind to focus.
This Wisdom bracelet resonates with the 6th chakra called Ajna, known as the 3rd eye (self-development and willpower), and the 7th, Crown chakra or Sahasrara (clarity and awareness).
The beads that make it up have naturally beneficial properties and so you can wear your mala bracelet without going through the above ceremony.
As you wear them, the beads in your mala will accumulate energy. At some point, you will feel that it is time to clean it. Practicing the following procedure is important to discharge and reset the energies of your bracelet. Place the mala under running water and touch each bead with the intention of cleaning it. Let it air dry. Once dry, you can then rub a little natural oil on each bead
Amethyst is largely connected to the spiritual and promotes meditation by creating a space of relaxation and serenity in one’s mind.
Vector of positive energy and peaceful sleep, this bracelet is recommended for people who have trouble falling asleep or who tend to wake up in the middle of the night with thoughts running on a loop.
This bracelet resonates with the 6th and 7th chakras. The sixth chakra is located between the two eyebrows. Called the “3rd eye”, it is synonymous with clear vision and intuition. When it is out of balance, it can bring confusion and a lack of self-recognition.
The seventh chakra is the one at the top of the skull and is connected to wisdom. It allows us to feel grounded in the world, in the present moment and with the people around us.
