YIN YOGA

A PRACTICE TO LET GO PHYSICALLY & MENTALLY

For most of us, the current times rhyme with a hectic daily life. Work, couple life, family, friends, hobbies, overloaded plannings, it is not uncommon that we no longer even take the time to connect with ourselves and to rest. It is however essential for our body, our mind and especially for our nervous system, to release the pressure of everyday life, breathe and relax.

Yin Yoga is precisely the activity that will allow you to refocus on your well-being, to find more serenity. The deep stretches, slow and long held poses encourage you to be mindful of your body and mind and to relax in full awareness. You will feel a mental and physical calming effect, welcome in a society that suggests us to always be on the move. Your energy will just find a better balance.

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a rather recent discipline since it developed in the 80s and has spread very recently in Europe. Unlike dynamic yoga like Vinyasa or Ashtanga, Yin Yoga offers to slow down the pace, to let go and to enter a form of meditation. The intentions here are not muscle development, body alignment or performance. On the contrary, we try to concentrate on sensations, softening, relaxation of the body and breathing.

This form of yoga therefore adopts a slow pace. We practice simple poses, mainly on the floor on the yoga mat or at the wall, which are held for several minutes in a passive mode (muscles at rest). We thus target deep tissues, other than muscles. Bones, joints and the famous fascia, especially in the hip, shoulder and spine joints. Having healthy connective tissues promotes increased flexibility and good mobility.

Yin Yoga classes often include props mostly used to help hold poses without tension (bolsters, blocks, blankets, zafus). In our YIN & ROLL classes, we combine Yoga Tune Up® self-massage balls with yin asanas (yoga postures) for even more efficiency on the fascia, limiting adhesions and releasing trigger points.

How does a Yin Yoga class work?

Each lesson lasts from 1 to 1 ½ hour. Since it is a slow yoga, postures will not follow one another at a sustained pace. On the contrary, only a few positions will be adopted and maintained for several minutes. Concentration, attention to the breath and to physical sensations will be at the center of the practice.

Your yoga teacher will give you many suggestions and explain the function of each pose so that you can find your own personal way of practicing this pose by placing your body in the way which is best suitable to you. You will learn to also find the depth that suits you so that your physical body is sufficiently stimulated without forcing, always with kindness and respect. She will then guide you so that you can calm down your mind and focus on what's there in that present moment.

What are the benefits of Yin Yoga?

This gentle form of yoga allows you to take care of your internal organs, joints and connective tissues.
Since Yin Yoga sessions offer a beautiful mental space, you will improve awareness and knowledge of your body, your breathing as well as your ability to calm your mind and concentrate better. The regular practice of Yin Yoga allows to achieve a progressive physical and mental letting go. Your nervous system will be calmed down, soothed.

Who are these yoga classes for?

Yin Yoga is a great complement to the more dynamic and / or muscle-building-oriented types of activity (called "Yang"), which is why we recommend balancing these two types of activity.

This style of yoga is open to everyone, male or female, regardless of your age, flexibility, physical condition and strength. Although this is not an "easy" practice, no previous yoga experience is required.

Everyone, beginner to experienced yogi.ni.s is welcome. The main difference will be in the holding time of poses: as a beginner in Yin yoga, we normally hold the poses between 3 and 5 minutes. With experience, you will be able to extend up to 15-20 minutes. Practicing yoga regularly allows you to reach unsuspected resources in yourself.

Persevere and you will feel “more at ease in your body” thanks to a complete work on your body, your mind and your energy. Yoga sessions make it possible in the long term to improve breathing, gain in relaxation and mobility, manage stress more efficiently.
